Today Compete released its June 2011 normalized metrics for unique visitors to the wide range of websites tracked by the organization. Here are the results for the top Online Travel Agencies (OTAs).
Expedia remains in the number one position with just over 19m unique visitors, up 12.07% from May and up year over year by 6.57%.
Priceline is a strong #2, with nearly 15m uniques, with month over month numbers similar to Expedia, but with more than twice the annual growth, with 14.51% year over year growth.
Orbitz, Hotwire and Travelocity are neck and neck, in 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively, with Hotwire’s growth surpassing all of its competitors. Only Travelocity has seen a decline year over year.
It is important to note that all of these companies also have other sites that drive business for them as a corporation. For example, Expedia also owns TripAdvisor, Classic Vacations, Hotels.com and CarRentals.com. Collectively, they produce another 26 million unique visitors per month. Priceline owns HotelRoom.com, CheapAirfares.com, CheapHotels.com, Agoda.com, Booking.com and others. Together they yield another 4 million unique visitors. Orbitz has partner sites Cheaptickets.com, Trip.com, HotelClub.com, RatestoGo.com and Gorp.com. These bring in another 5.5 million unique visitors. Travelocity’s partner sites include lastminute.com, allhotels.com, holiday autos, igougo and travelguru.com, bringing in another 1.5 million unique visitors.
Expedia (EXPE), Priceline (PCLN) and Orbitz (OWW) are public companies. Travelocity is a division of Sabre Holdings and Hotwire is a division of Expedia. Despite traffic that is similar, there is an enormous gap between the valuations of the companies.
- Today, Expedia is trading at $30.59 per share. The company has a market cap of $8.36b on $3.45b of revenue.
- Priceline is trading at a whopping $533.67 per share, rivaling Google’s $622.52 per share on $3.31b of revenue. Priceline’s market cap is $26.49b.
- Orbitz is trading at $3.65, with a market cap of just $374m on $755.26m of revenue.
So if you have just 700k shares of Prieline lying around, Orbitz is yours for the taking.
Stay tuned.
