Top 10 Travel Distribution Fallacies – #5 Technology is a business driver

Technology is a business driver

I have made my living as a technology strategist.  So trust me, I am not anti-technology.  In fact, I thrive on innovation and have often been caught ahead of the curve, or as we say “on the bleeding edge”.

In the travel industry, technology may be an enabler, but it is not a driver (unless you are a technology company).

Your business should seek out the best solution (both functionality and from a cost perspective) based on your needs or those of your customers, but new technology offerings should not overly influence your business strategy.

Create your strategy and then obtain technology solutions as part of your operating plan to facilitate the implementation.

Bottom line, do a fact based RFP (in the Solutionz RapidRFP process no marketing hype allowed!), comparing the key features that will move the needle for your business.

And don’t EVER implement any new technology that takes more than a year.  Everything will change before you are done.

  1. Great post Chicke! I was just reading about tech solutions on the ThinkSIS Facebook page, it sounds like it can really take a business to the next level. I came across your blog while I was doing some more research online on this and I'm definitely happy I did because this was a very informative post. Thank you for sharing this with us!
